1956 EJS Climax Special
This 1956 EJS-Climax was designed in 1954 by Edwin Joseph Snusher as a response to the Lotus MK 9 also of that year. By the time the EJS was released in 1956 however, the Lotus XI was on the scene, but to the EJS Climax’s credit it held up well against the Lotus's , coming only a short way behind them at the 1956 Crystal Palace races.
The car was raced throughout 1956 at events at Crystal Palace, Goodwood, Brighton and Silverstone. Snusher then retired the car, removing and selling the Coventry Climax engine and gearbox, partially dismantling the car and storing it at his home in Croydon where it lay undisturbed for 45 years.
Until it was found and bought by us at auction.
We’ve completely restored the car to its original condition, with a fresh Climax engine and a substituted period MG four-speed gearbox. It’s now fully road-legal, with FIA papers, and we recently raced succesfully at Goodwood.
